Devise Engineers are a design-focused structural an civil engineering consultancy based in London. Driven by sustainability, we’re acutely aware that we have a unique opportunity to shape the world around us. We take great joy in helping to inform the materials and design of our buildings and considering the effect on the end user. For instance, using attractive natural materials like exposed timber can offer comfort and reassurance. Our experts deeply understand the impact of our engineering on a building’s ‘feel’ and aesthetic. We also think carefully about a building’s energy requirements - including energy embodied within the building materials. Where possible, we encourage reusing the existing building fabric. And if this isn’t feasible, we’ll look to repurpose the construction materials elsewhere. When we need to build new, we rigorously review the construction typology – giving its embodied energy equal standing to structural performance, constructability and aesthetics. We also recognise that manufacturing buildings off-site in modern, purpose-built factories will improve quality and reduce air leakage and operational energy. Fewer operatives on-site also enables timely and efficient construction.
